Beginners' sewing – making a skirt

 

This is a five week beginners course.  You will need to have attended our Introduction to Machine Sewing  course or be familiar with threading up machine and basic stitches.

 

In the first session we will cover, measuring yourself, reading the pattern, what fabric to choose and cutting out your pattern.

 

In sessions two and three we will cover how to pin and cut out fabric then go on to look at the differences between seams and hemming.  We will start to construct our skirt creating a waistband and pockets as well as looking at using different machine feet when we cover how to insert a zip.

 

Weeks four and five will combine all the skills covered to complete your fabulous skirt.

 

You can bring your own machine to become more familiar with it, or use one of ours.

 

You will need to bring with you the following materials to the second week of class:-

 

sizes 10-16

130cm of 115cm wide of woven cotton (non-stretchy) material plus 40cm of a contrasting pattern material OR
100cm if 150cm wide of woven cotton (non-stretchy) material plus 40cm of a contrasting pattern material.

 

sizes 18-22

150cm of 115cm wide of woven cotton (non-stretchy) material plus 40cm of a contrasting pattern material OR
100cm if 150cm wide of woven cotton (non-stretchy) material plus 40cm of a contrasting pattern material.

 

Plus 1x 7"/18cm zip and thread to match.
